James Land, the father of Josie Land, was the second husband of Mary Caroline (Hutchinson) Trotter. James M Land was born about 1845 in North Carolina and was in the 1880 Census in Tipton County, TN.

John Calvin Black was in Company C of the 37th North Carolina Infantry. He first appears in Fayette County, TN in 1872 when he applied for a Marriage Bond to marry Laura Cross. One Internet Family tree gives his father as Joseph Sedlee Black of Cabarrus County, NC, but I cannot verify that beyond the fact that Joseph Sedlee Black did have a son named John C who was born at the right time.
