John Simonton (1823 - 1885) was born 4 January 1823 in South Carolina and died 29 January 1885 in Tipton County, TN. He is buried in the Salem ARP Cemetery. John married Martha A. Miller (1828 - 1902) on 20 May 1847 in Tipton County, TN. Martha A. Miller was born in 1828 in South Carolina and died in1902 in Tipton County TN. John Simonton and Martha A. Miller had 7 children:

Charles Judson Simonton married Fannie Emaline McLaughlin (1865 - 1956) in 1887 and they lived about one-half mile east of Atoka in a two story log house. Around 1903 they moved to Atoka and lived in a large two story frame house (see below). Charles was a farmer and operated a livery stable. The house shown below was destroyed in a tornado on April 21, 1928.
